The Grateful Dead was never meant to be a finished story. Its music became a living ecosystem, carried forward by the musicians, artists, fans, and communities who took what came before and made something of their own. Midnight North represents that next generation: a band born in the Bay Area, shaped by the music and community of Terrapin Crossroads, and carrying the Lesh family connection into a sound that is distinctly their own.
With Grahame Lesh and Elliott Peck at its center, Midnight North brings together American roots music, songwriting, harmony, and improvisation – traditions passed down, reshaped, and made new. They are leaves and branches of the great old tree, connected to the roots, but always reaching outward.
The journey comes full circle not by looking backward, but by looking at where the music is growing next!
This weekend we’re wrapping our summer shows with a run on the east coast! We’ve got a little of everything for you – a club show, a free show, and a festival show for a festival crowd! Come one, come all!

We’re ready to take the music to a higher elevation later this month up in Colorado! We’ve got 4 shows lined up: the first two are Midnight North headlining shows and then we climb back on the Terrapin bus for two Roadshows in Glenwood Springs to finish up the run on a high note! 🐢
The Midnight North origin story pretty much started right around the same time Terrapin Crossroads opened for business in San Rafael, CA. While we played a few shows in and around San Francisco before then, we really came into our own and became a band on the TXR bar stage and in the Grate Room. Things only picked up once we began our Sunday evening residency that lasted many years. Those were the good days! While its sad that the OG TXR is no longer, we can certainly thank the Lesh Family for carrying the vibe forward with the ever expanding Terrapin Roadshows. We had an epic time last year at the San Rafael Roadshow and no doubt this month’s two August Roadshows in Glenwood Springs will bring that Terrapin Nation vibe to Colorado! Hope to see you there for another chapter of Midnight North and TXR!
That classic southern hospitality was in full force during our recent run of shows to Nashville, Birmingham, and Asheville! The band had a great time and got to see lotsa friends, fans, and some family too! Check out the photos below from the Birmingham show. The Lakeview Marina in Birmingham is a fantastic new outdoor venue, even if there is no lake or water! What!? Haha! However, there is a record store attached to the venue called Seasick Records and a Hi-Fi listening lounge, jazz kissa, called High Dive that we absolutely loved though! If you can’t tell, we can’t wait to get back there again.

We had a most excellent time out east in NY and CT last weekend – great to see all our friends and fans who could make it out! We busted out some very old Midnight North tunes at each show, a few that haven’t been played in over 5 years(!) like “Miss M”, “Quiet Strangers”, “Cactus Tree” and “Wind & Roses”. Plus we debuted a new Tommy Keys song called “Destination is the Journey” that the entire band helped ol’ Tommy record on a forthcoming record of his. All in all a great trip! The band is feeling good and ready to hit the road later this month in the southeast for dates in Nashville, Birmingham, and Asheville.
